I want to address the elephant in the room, range anxiety. Range anxiety is the fear in electric cars that they will not have the range needed to reach your destination or a charger. Since I was doing quite a bit of driving, due to moving I soon got over range anxiety and trust the estimated range meter in my car. My EV, like other vehicles has an onboard computer that will give you an estimated range, the best range you might get and the worst range you can expect.
The first few weeks I owned the car, I was wary of the battery gauge dropping down below 50 percent, but soon realized that I had nothing to fear from the battery dropping and should watch the estimated lowest battery range to truly get a feel for how many miles I had left. Once I began doing that the entire fear of running out of power on a trip starts to disappear.
Charging an EV that is not a Tesla is at a big issue. I had to obtain five different charging accounts to be able to successfully road trip my car. Some of the charging accounts I opened to enable my driving trips are: Charge Point, EVGO, EVConnect and Sema Connect. I have been at some chargers where only one of six chargers work. When you approach a charger and it's the only one for miles and its occupied, you accept that you wait or leave and drive to another charger.
What the non-testa EV charging industry needs is a reliable fast charging network. If the various EV manufacturers would form a partnership and produce a reliable charging network, then more people may buy and drive EVs.
